Funeral services for Loy Carl Schmidt of Alden will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake. The Rev. Wendy Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery.
Loy died Saturday, March 2, 2008, at his home in Alden. He was 92 years of age.
Loy was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Freeborn County, the son of Christ and Alma (Stern) Schmidt. He attended country school in Pickerel Lake.
Loy was a resident of Freeborn County all of his life and farmed the family farm. He didn&8217;t quit milking cows until he was 75. He loved gardening and shared his produce with everyone. Loy also enjoyed cracking walnuts for everyone in the German Community. Loy could be found fishing or ice fishing, going to auctions, enjoying the company of his dog Teddy, or cutting wood with his chainsaw for neighbors and friends.
He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake where he had been confirmed as a child.
Loy is survived by one sister, Linda Hamson, of Bricelyn and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
Loy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mildred Kangus and Elsie Perschbacher; and brother Edwin Schmidt.
