Evens Motz, 83, Ellendale

Evens P. Motz, 83, of Ellendale died March 7, 2008, at Homestead Hospice in Owatonna.

Mass of Christian burial is set for Tuesday at 11 a.m. St Aidan&8217;s Catholic Church in Ellendale with the Rev. Thien Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow at Geneva Cemetery. Friends may call at Brick – Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, in Owatonna on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. The visitation will continue one hour before the time of services at the church.

Evens was born Nov. 8, 1924, son of Frank and Mary (Pelinka) Motz. Evens was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Catholic at Litomysl He attended school in Ellendale. Evens married Marion Nelson on June 8, 1950, at Litomysl. The couple farmed in rural Steele County and raised three sons. Evens was a farmer all of his life on his family farm in Summit Township. Farming was the love of his life. After moving off the farm he made daily trips to the farm to tinker or help at what ever needed to be done. Evens keen electrical and mechanical abilities were well known by his family, friends and neighbors. One of the grandkids said &8220;if you break something give it to Grandpa; he can fix anything.&8221; He was a member of St. Aidan&8217;s Catholic Church in Ellendale. His life interests include antique tractors, especially Minneapolis Moline. Evens was active in his church and community always willing to volunteer when asked and willing to help visit the sick and those in need.

Evens is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Marion of Ellendale; three caring sons: Jim (Marian) Motz of Chambersburg, Pa., Gary (Jodi) Motz of Mason City, Iowa and Ronald (Aileen) Motz of Ellendale; seven grandchildren: Missy (Scott) Michie, Rebecca (Brian) Brillo, Angela, Julia, Justin, and Robin; mother-in-law, Ella Nelson; sister, Margaret Vaith; brothers-in-law James (Lila) Nelson and David (Zetty) Nelson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Edward; brother-in-law Emil Vaith; and father -in-law Oluf Nelson.
