Funeral services for Darrell Dwayne Carlsen, 78, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Spande will officiate. Interment will be at Central Freeborn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.

Darrell died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Albert Lea Medical Center.

Darrell was born on March 5, 1930, to Lauritz and Emma (Jacobsen) Carlsen in Clarks Grove. He attended rural school District 23. Darrell worked on the family farm and farmed in Freeborn County all of his life. He was united in marriage to Joann Martinson on Feb. 12, 1950, in Scarville, Iowa. Darrell retired from farming in 1976. He enjoyed milking cows, plowing for area farmers, playing cards, fishing and being with his family and friends. Darrell was a member of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joann; children, James &8220;Jim&8221; (Lezlie) Carlsen of Albert Lea, Randall (Sandra) Carlsen of Elysian, and Cathy (Phillip) Hensche of Clarks Grove; grandchildren, Marcy Thompson, Teresa Rohl, Lacy Carlsen, Erin Carlsen, Kristal Carlsen, Cassie Carlsen, Tracey Carlsen, Jamie Hensche, Jeremy Hensche, Jason Hensche, and Lorrie Hensche; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Sabinish of Albert Lea; brother, Ronald (Evelyn) Carlsen; Joann&8217;s family; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Amy Jo; brothers-in-law, Richard Sabinish and Milford Martinson; a brother and sister in infancy.
