Freeborn Red Cross announces 2008 Dancing With the Freeborn County Stars

Based on the hit ABC-TV series and building on last year&8217;s popular local event, the local Red Cross chapter will sponsor &8220;Dancing with the Freeborn County Stars&8221; on Friday, April 11. The show will be held at 7 p.m. at Albert Lea High School. Admission is $10 ($5 under age 12) and tickets are available at the door.

This year, nine couples will compete for the winning trophy, striving for the highest judges&8217; scores and the most votes from the audience. Dancing will be:

Don Anderson from Clarks Grove, dancing the foxtrot with Dawn Thompson.

Diane Clark from the Albert Lea Medical Center, dancing the waltz with Mark Thompson.

Cristina Frank from KIMT, dancing theatre arts with Mike Walker.

Ann Glazier from KAAL, dancing the jive with Joey Ray.

Dennis Glassel from the Albert Lea Fire Department dancing West Coast swing with Mary Angell.

Laurie Herman, local teacher, dancing cha cha with Tim Grahn.

Sarah Kirchner from the Albert Lea Tribune dancing swing with George Rothmeier.

Glen Mathiason, county commissioner, dancing rhumba with Bev Rothmeier.

Curtis Smith, local entrepreneur, tangoing with Roberta Grahn.

Judges for this year&8217;s performances are Jordan Bohonek, Allison Ciota and Diane Heaney.

Daryl Amundson from KATE radio will return as the Master of Ceremonies.

The Just for Kix Dancers will provide entertainment while the final results are being tabulated.

Refreshments will be provided by K&K Bakery and Starbucks.

The event provides a fun evening for everyone and raises funds for local Red Cross programs including disaster response and preparedness, education (water safety, CPR, first aid, babysitting, and more) and Armed Forces Emergency Services.

Attendees vote for their favorites by placing their donation in the couple&8217;s fish bowl during the intermission.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Celebrations, Doyle&8217;s Hallmark or Dance Yourself Silly.

The Freeborn County Chapter of the American Red Cross is located in Albert Lea and represents the national association in Freeborn County.

The local chapter responds to local disasters including fires and provides volunteers for national disasters.

Community services include education on preparedness, water safety instruction for local organizations, and classes in CPR, First Aid, and other subjects.

The Armed Forces Emergency Services assists with issues between local residents and members of the armed forces deployed all over the world.
