Joyce Metcalfe, 71, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Joyce E. Metcalfe, 71, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior&8217;s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wayne Halverson will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.

Joyce died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Albert Lea Medical Center.

Joyce Emma Metcalfe was born on June 7, 1936, to Edward Henry and Viola Fern (Lamaack) Mielke in Lyon County. She started kindergarten in Lemorton and moved with her family to Albert Lea in 1944 where she attended Ramsey Elementary and Albert Lea High School. Joyce married Norris Brackey in the 1950s. She was employed at Johnson&8217;s Laundry and also worked for Wilson&8217;s for 42 years through their many changes. Joyce married Donald Metcalfe in September of 1979. She retired from Wilson&8217;s in 1999. Joyce enjoyed flowers, her trips to Las Vegas twice a year, her puppy, Mary, and camping at the Hope Campgrounds. Joyce especially loved her husband, kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Donald; children, Todd Brackey of Albert Lea and Randy (Renae) Brackey of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Billie Jo Hodak of Colorado, Travis Brackey of Colorado, Steven Brackey, Amber Brackey and Seth Brackey, all of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren, Bryan Hodak Jr. of Colorado and Connor May of Albert Lea; mother, Viola Bartz; sister, Fern Cameron of Albert Lea; brother, Vernon Mielke of Minneapolis; step-sister, Marcia (Brian) Carlson of Stacyville, Iowa; step-brother, Bobby Bartz of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law, Betty (Roger) Hermanson, and Shirley Torsh; brothers-in-law; James Metcalfe and Paul Anderson.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Edward; step father, Vernal Bartz; husband Norris; son, William Brackey; brother, Virgil Mielke; brother-in-law, Jim Cameron; and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Severtson and Phyllis Anderson.
