A rough start in the field hindered the Glenville-Emmons baseball team Tuesday against Martin Luther-Granada-Huntley-East Chain as it lost 9-6.

The Wolverines made three consecutive errors to open the game and finished with a total of seven in a game that should have been closer.

With the aid of fielding gaffes by Glenville-Emmons the Knights staked themselves to a 2-0 lead and never looked back as they added one run in the second, two in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth for the win.

The Wolverines (4-2 overall, 3-0 SEC) had won four out of their last five games entering the game with Martin Luther/GHEC and mounted a strong comeback effort Tuesday in the late innings.

Trailing 4-0 in the fifth inning, sophomore Jon Mittag hit a bases clearing double to draw Glenville-Emmons to within one run, but the rally quickly faded as the next three hitters struck out.

The Knights answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half as they started to get to pitcher Garrett Schumaker. Schumaker threw five innings, struck out eight and gave up five earned runs in the loss.
