NEW RICHLAND &8212; Despite the blustery conditions some decent scores were shot Tuesday at Riverview Golf Course in a golf match between United South Central and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.
NRHEG boys won 199-218, but the contest between the girls&8217; teams were much closer &8212; one shot. NRHEG won 221-222.
USC&8217;s Kirsten Amberg&8217;s 48 led the girls, but the 55 shot by junior Brittni Wangsness put the Panthers in the lead by 1 stroke. With two golfers left, USC lead by 6. A 56 would tie and Wangsness came in with a 55. The girls seemed to fare better in the wind, as the three groups of girls outpaced the boys with all 12 girls finishing before the first group of boys.
Alex Pederson of USC lead the boys scoring with 46 followed by Jon Kormann of NRHEG with a 47. Lots of double digits showed up on the cards especially on the longer par 4 No. 2 and both par 5s. Putting was extremely dicey. In the end the Panthers kept it together in the wind to wind by 19.
