The Albert Lea baseball team (3-15) came back from an early 6-0 deficit but still fell short in its Big Nine matchup with Mankato West (12-6) Monday afternoon at Albert Lea&8217;s Hayek Field.

After giving up six runs in the first two innings the Tigers responded with three in the third and two more in the fifth to pull within striking distance at 8-5 before surrendering three in the sixth for the 11-5 loss.

&8220;The guys kept battling, we just came up short,&8221; said Tigers head coach Joe Sczublewski. &8220;We made some fantastic plays in the field, but then we also committed five errors that just gave them too many opportunities to beat us.&8221;

Sophomore Colby Strilaeff continued to be a shining star for the Tigers on the mound as he walked just one but still took the loss after four innings of work.

Strilaeff, Logan Kortan, and Anthony Tippett led the Tigers offensive attack with two hits each and accounted for six of the eight A.L. hits on the day.

The Tigers will be back in action today when they host Big Nine leading John Marshall (14-2) for a doubleheader.
