Kermit Froiland, 82, Oakland

Funeral services for Kermit T. Froiland, 82, of Oakland, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Oakland Lutheran Church. The Rev. Bob Berthold and the Rev. Reuben Unseth will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakland Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Kermit died on Friday, May 16, 2008, at his home following a courageous battle with melanoma cancer. His faith in the Lord sustained him.

Kermit Theodore Froiland was born on Jan. 3, 1926, in rural Leland Iowa, the son of Samuel Knut and Ragnhild (Moen) Froiland. He moved to Minnesota with his parents in 1944 at the age of 18. Kermit lived on that same farm for the rest of his life. In Iowa, they attended West Prairie Lutheran Church and Kermit graduated from Leland High School. On March 21, 1954, Kermit was united in marriage to LaVonne D. Kruger at the Oakland Lutheran Church.

Both of Kermit&8217;s parents were born in Norway and he was a member of the Sons of Norway. Kermit was a member of the Oakland Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife LaVonne of Oakland; sons, Gary and his wife Elaine, of Stewartville, and Michael Froiland of Eagle Lake; grandson, Joshua and his wife Jennifer Froiland of Rochester; granddaughter, Jessica Froiland of Stewartville; step-great-granddaughter, Katelyn; great-grandson due in September; brothers-in-law, William (Gen) Kruger and Harold (Charlene) Kruger; sisters-in-law, Helen Pearson and Lois Chapek; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in this country and in Norway and Japan.

Kermit was preceded in death by his parents; his son Stephen Samuel Froiland in March of 2007; his brothers-in-law Wayne Wood and Frank Pearson; and his sister-in-law Delores Wood.
