Hugh Valiant from Department of Natural Resource and Orie Lowe, Fountain Lake Sportsmen&8217;s Club, released 80,000 northern fry into the Fountain Lake watershed today.
Valiant had four containers with 20,000 northern in each. One container was released in Bancroft Creek, two in Mud Lake and one in Goose Lake. Each container was pumped up with oxygen to insure the water was properly oxygenated during their travel.
Once the northern are released the current will disperse them and they will settle into merging vegetation to find food and grow. When the northern are big enough they will migrate into Fountain Lake.
Valiant said this is the first time northern have been released into the Fountain Lake watershed, but will be an annual event from now on. The Department of Natural Resources will release 80,000 more this
weekend.
