Students do well at national BPA contests

Jacob Winkels was second at the national BPA competitions held in Reno, Nev. With more than 6,000 participants in a variety of events, Winkels took second place in integrated office procedures. This event requires the contestant to produce a variety of documents using word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software. Jacqui Jepson and Emily Stark also placed well.
Jepson placed 16th in legal office procedures and Stark participated in advanced office systems and procedures.
Sschool Matters: Mock trial Thursday
Twelve eighth-grade Southwest Middle School students have been working on a mock trial for two weeks and will hold their trial on May 22 at the Freeborn County Government Center.
The opportunity is to provide gifted and talented students a challenging opportunity to learn about the judicial process through the application of the law.
Nutrition & Exercise = Healthy Kids
The elementary PTOs along with Albert Lea Medical Center are offering a free program for parents and anyone concerned about adolescent obesity
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the
Albert Lea High School auditorium. The &8220;Supersize Me&8221; documentary will be shown, along with a discussion with community health care and exercise experts (Brenda Morris, Dr. Maria Loerzel, Amy Pleimling, Mary Nelson and Bill Villarreal). There will also be tips on how to plan and prepare healthy meals, snacks and lunches.

Author to visit Lakeview
On Friday, an author will visit Lakeview Elementary School. Ryan Jacobson comes from Mora and will be on hand for the day. He will also be selling his books to interested students and families for $5 each.
He will autograph them and they will be ready for students on Tuesday, May 27.
He will spend part of the day with each grade level.
He will be reading briefly from his books; speak about the writing process; how he gets his ideas for the book; how illustrations are created; and other topics as well.
He will also spend some time in the afternoon with students as part of the fourth grade and Sonya Zieske&8217;s author tea.
