The United South Central girls&8217; golf team repeated as 2AA West subsection champions Tuesday at Le Sueur Country Club.
The Rebels were the only team to break 400 as they shot 395 behind the performance of emerging star Stephanie Herman.
Herman helped lead USC to the Gopher Conference championship last week by finishing second with 98 to give the Rebels a 1-2-3 finish as teammates Jessica Stensrud and Kirsten Amberg took first and third, respectively.
This time out Herman won medalist honors with a 91 and Stensrud finished fourth while Amberg took sixth.
USC moves on to the section championship next Tuesday at the Dodge Center for the right to advance to state.
The Rebels had a strong 1-2 punch with Amberg and Stensrud all season long, but with Herman beginning to play well it has given USC added depth.
&8220;In the beginning of the season I wouldn&8217;t have expected it,&8221; Rebels head coach Randy Halvorson said. &8220;I&8217;m so happy with how she&8217;s been playing.&8221;
The course played especially tough, a 91 at Le Sueur is something Halvorson found impressive.
&8220;The setup was very difficult,&8221; he said. &8220;If you were off the fairway you wouldn&8217;t make par.&8221;
The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls&8217; team finished fourth with a 416, tying Le Sueur-Henderson for fourth place. St. Peter finished second with a 408 and Blue Earth took third with a 410.
Mariah Tappe and Katie Walstrom moved on to the section tournament with a 97 and 101, respectively.
&8220;The girls had a very low score, especially factoring in the Le Sueur course,&8221; Panthers head coach Xan Johnson said. &8220;Going into the season we felt we had a chance at USC, but they proved very deep with the emergence of Stephanie Herman.&8221;
The NRHEG boys&8217; team finished third overall, missing out on a team trip to the section finals by nine strokes to second place finisher St. Peter.
The Panthers registered a 360 while St. Peter shot a 351. Blue Earth ran away with the tournament by carding a 337.
Seth Hansen, Jon Kormann and Aaron Patraw advanced to the section tournament.
Hansen shot an 86, Kormann had an 87 and Patraw finished with a 93.
&8220;The boys played pretty well overall,&8221; Johnson said. &8220;This is the highest cut I can remember in 20 years for advancing to sections. I can remember 89, but never in the 90s.&8221;
USC placed sixth overall with a 387.
Alex Pederson and Sam Gackstetter advanced to sections with their play.
Pederson finished eighth with a 92 and Gackstetter placed ninth with a 93.
