Virginia Lund, 79, Owatonna

Virginia Ann Lund, 79, of Owatonna died May 24, 2008, at Cedarview Care Center in Owatonna following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Virginia was born on April 11, 1929, in Steele County to Joseph and Agnes (Kubista) Pavek. She married Melvin Lund on Oct. 10, 1949, at the First Baptist Church of Owatonna. Following marriage the couple made their home in Owatonna. In 1957, they moved to an acreage near Hope. Virginia was a very active member of First Lutheran Church of Hope. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her &8220;Virgie cookies and Virgie pickles.&8221; She also enjoyed playing cards, was a member of an extension club in addition to belonging to a book club. In the 1960s she was a correspondent for the Hope Photo News. In her later years she started quilting and enjoyed creating handwork for her family.

She is survived by her husband Melvin of Owatonna; a daughter Dianne (Paul) Johnson of Owatonna; two sons Myron (Connie) Lund of Zumbro Falls and Rodney Lund of Hollandale; six granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers Richard (Wanda) Pavek of San Jose, Calif.; Donald (Mary) Pavek of Hendricks; and two sisters Betty Boerner of Owatonna and Joie Pritchett of Alpena, Mich. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church of Hope with the Rev. Josh Ehrler officiating the afternoon service. Burial will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna.

Friends may greet the family on Wednesday at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road) from 4 to 7 pm. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church of Hope or to the donor&8217;s choice.
