The bats for the Albert Lea American Legion baseball team started to breathe some life Saturday in a doubleheader against Winona.

The Tigers traveled to Winona and suffered a 10-0 loss in the first game and a 7-5 loss in the second game.

Albert Lea outhit the Winhawks in the second game 11-8 but couldn’t completely overcome a four-run first inning by Winona.

“We’ve got to stop the walks and errors,” Tigers head coach Boyd Eisenbraun said. “We just have to hit the ball.”

Albert Lea showed some grit in the second game, coming back from a 6-1 deficit in the second inning to draw to within one run, but the Winhawks sealed the game late with a pair of runs.

Casey Woodside went 3-for-4 in the game and the heart of the order hit the ball well as Logan Kortan went 2-for-4 as well. Woodside scored twice for the Tigers.

In the first game Winona clobbered the Tigers 10-0 in six innings as Albert Lea could only find three hits in the game.

The Winhawks, made up of some Winona Cotter players who had just returned from the high school state tournament, sent balls into gaps and powered their way to the shutout win.
