Benefits on tap this weekend

A pancake breakfast benefit for Angie Lenort of Twin Lakes will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Moose Lodge in Skyline Plaza.

Lenort has been diagnosed with mixed-glioma and underwent brain tumor surgery on Feb. 28. She is now undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

She is the daughter of Hans and Judy Jensen of Freeborn and the wife of Dunnell Lenort, son of Jim and Jeanette Lenort of Walters.

Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice, milk and coffee will be served.

Advance sale tickets are $5 per person and are available at the Moose Lodge, St. John’s Lutheran Home and Antiques of the Midwest. Cost is $6 per person at the door. Children ages 6 years and younger eat free.

The benefit will also feature a silent auction, bake sale and music by Dunnell Lenort and the Southern Streamline Band.

Donations may also be sent to Wells Fargo Bank, 122 E. Main St., Albert Lea.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, the Albert Lea Knights baseball will host a 9-U an 10-U tournament at J.M. Snyder Fields. Games begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, June 27

– A Children’s Miracle Network fundraiser will be held in the Wal-Mart parking lot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be information on home safety, Safe and Sober information, child safety seat installation, food, a ring toss and fun, games and prizes for the whole family.

– Glenville American Legion will hold a baseball and softball fundraiser supper beginning at 5 p.m. Barbecued pork sandwiches, potato salad, beans and chips will be served for $7 per person.

– The Pelican Breeze II will host a pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m.; call 383-2630.

Saturday, June 28

– A Children’s Miracle Network fundraiser will be held in the Wal-Mart parking lot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

-The third annual Corey Goodnature Memorial Scholarship Golf Classic, Dinner and Auction will be held at Green Lea Golf Course. Opening ceremonies start at 2:30 p.m. There will be a shotgun start at 3 p.m. A meal and silent auction start at 6:30 p.m. and the live auction at 7:30 p.m. Call 373-4948 for more information.

– The Pelican Breeze will host a narrated cruise at 4 p.m.

– A chicken supper to help keep the Glenville Beach open will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion. Grilled chicken, baked potatoes, cole slaw, french bread and dessert will be served for $7.50 per person. A kids’ meal, including a hot dog, cole slaw and dessert, will be served for $3 per person.

Sunday, June 29

– A benefit for the family of Arlene Frondal will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at Oakland Lutheran Church, 22042 850th Ave., Albert Lea. Pizza casserole, lettuce salad, homemade pies and ice cream will be served for a donation. Proceeds will help with medical expenses. Arlene died April 28 from complications of colon cancer. Arlene was a member of Oakland Lutheran Church where she had been the church secretary for many years. While living in Blooming Prairie from 1979-86, Arlene and Stanley owned the Big T Family Restaruant. Arlene had worked for Hill Larson Walth and Benda in Albert Lea for the last 20 years. Donations may be sent to Oakland Lutheran Church.

– The Pelican Breeze will host a narrated cruise at 1:30 p.m.

– Youth for Christ, 116 W. Clark St., will hold a open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Visitors can see the recent remodeling, the new “Campus Life Cafe,” experience the “Sacred Place” youth prayer room and meet the staff.

– The Pelican Breeze will host a cruise with Al Batt at 3 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m. Saturday; call 383-2630.
