Memorial Services for John L. Duenes will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Friends may visit with family one hour before the service at the church. He chose to be cremated and will be buried in St. Theodore’s Cemetery.
John Luna Duenes, 60, of Albert Lea, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester on Sunday, June 1, 2008.
John was born July 14, 1947, in Albert Lea, to Natividad and Guadalupe (Luna) Duenes. He lived in Albert Lea all his life where he married Paula Vasquez on June 3, 1973, in Glenville through the Justice of the Peace and then at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church. They raised their family in Albert Lea and often visited family in Texas and Kansas. John enjoyed attending regular church services with his family and was an active member in the St. Theodore’s Parish. John was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Chapter of Albert Lea.
Survivors included his wife Paula Vasquez Duenes, three sons John, Mario, and David Duenes; four grandchildren: Alexio Miranda of St. Paul, Tayla VonHagen of Albert Lea, Brycin and Brayden Kirsch of Albert Lea; brothers: Robert (Josie) Duenes of Owatonna, Raul (Blasa) Duenes of Albert Lea, Lupe (Hector) Ortiz of Albert Lea, RosaLinda (Ramon) Villarreal of Albert Lea; Carmen (Martin) Rosas of Albert Lea; Jesse Duenes of Albert Lea and several nieces and nephews. Seven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law. John was a very devoted, loving, caring husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
