The Lake Mills softball won 2-1 Monday against Osage in what some might call a pitcher’s duel, but it was far from a duel.

Bulldogs starter Josie Brackey, an eighth-grader, struck out 15 Green Devil hitters en route to a complete game victory.

Brackey struck out the side in the second, third, sixth and finished the game with three consecutive strikeouts in the seventh inning. She was responsible for all but six of the 21 total outs in the evening.

“It was just a matter of who was going to hit the ball,” Lake Mills head coach Stacie Gaskill said. “We came out and scored one early, and then one more in the second. We like to put the pressure on the other team as soon as possible. But with Brackey having 15 stikeouts on the night it was hard for Osage to put runs together to score.”

The Green Devils only had five hits off of Brackey who allowed only one earned run.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Darcy Nelson, who was running for Whitney Thompson, scored on a Holly Buffington single.

Lake Mills added another run in the second inning when Sammy Nelson brought Cassie Christianson home on an RBI single.

Osage scored one in the third inning, but it wasn’t going to matter as Brackey was dealing on the mound, striking out seven after the third inning.
