This afternoon Larry Anderson announced that “I am throwing my hat in the ring” and will be a candidate for the Albert Lea City Council Ward 5 seat.

Larry Anderson is a 17-year employee of the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Currently he is an information technology specialist, responsible for computer systems at the Mn/DOT Owatonna District 6B Office. He has had several other jobs in our area, including 11 years during the Wilson/Farmstead packing house. “I’ve never been afraid to roll up my sleeves and get the jobs done!” said Anderson.

A native of Albert Lea, Anderson and his wife of 31 years, Lynne, have made their home in Ward 5 for over 25 years. They raised their two children there and are proud grandparents of two.

The Ward 5 seat on the City Council will be open this year with the announcement that current City Council member, John Severtson, will run for County Commissioner. When asked why he was running, Anderson said “We need people who really care about our city, and I believe I can have a positive impact on our city’s future.” Larry believes that his experience for the state will allow him to be an effective representative for Ward 5.

Larry serves as the president of the Fountain Lake Sportsman Club Inc. and has been active in this group for over 20 years. As an extension of the work, four years ago he was named as a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Shellrock River Watershed District.

Brett Behnke, the administrator of the Shellrock River Watershed, said, “It is great to see Larry step forward and run for council. His background with the Sportsman’s Club and his work with the Watershed will position him to have an immediate impact on the City Council. “

Larry’s and his family are members of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
