No-wake ordinance in affect

Fountain Lake is officially under a no-wake ordinance, as of Sunday morning. Because of high water levels and the threat of shoreline erosion, the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office insists all watercraft stay below a no-wake speed, essentially idling, said Water Patrol Deputy Matt Levorson.

The time span of the no-wake ordinance has yet to be determined, but Levorson said he doesn’t expect it to last longer than a few days unless the area gets more rain. People can check posted signs at both boat landings — at Edgewater Park and Brookside — and AlbertLeaTribune.com to find out when the ordinance is over.

A no-wake ordinance goes into affect usually when the water gets close to going over Katherine Island because of the threat of erosion, according to Levorson.

He said people should be careful when out on Fountain Lake because during the spring there is usually a lot of floating debris still in the lake. People involved in water activities should be careful even after the no-wake ordinance is lifted.
