The offense for the Lake Mills softball team finally came to life with a 9-5 win over Newman Catholic Friday night at home.

The Bulldogs (17-5 overall, 8-2 NIC) scored two runs in the first inning and added five in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.

Lake Mills gasped as the Knights (6-19 overall, 3-5 NIC) struck for five runs in the fifth inning, but the threat didn’t last long as the Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth for the 9-5 victory.

“We came out and hit well,” Lake Mills head coach Stacie Gaskill said. “But when you have one inning where your opponent is swinging away and making solid contact, they will earn some runs.”

Morgan Aalgaard had four hits including a home run and three RBIs for the Bulldogs and Sabrina Roll added three hits and an RBI.

“We didn’t let that one inning bother us,” Gaskill said.

Five batters had multi-hit games for Lake Mills as it collected 16 hits in the game.

Josie Brackey threw seven innings and allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out five for the win.
