Kids and adults alike who are ready for some summer fun in the sun should gear up for the opening of Albert Lea’s pool Saturday.

City staff have completed some usual upgrades such as painting and installing a few new umbrellas out at the pool so that the facility is ready for a new year.

“We’re hoping for another great summer,” said Recreation Program Supervisor Jenny Davis. “There’s always all sorts of fun stuff to do at the pool.”

For the younger kids there’s water toys like tumble buckets, deck sprays, mushroom waterfalls, bubblers and a five-arm water fountain.

And of course, there’s the 226-foot water slide.

For the older kids, there’s the large pool, which ranges in depth from 3 and 1/2 feet to 13 feet and has two diving boards.

There are always eight lifeguards on duty during public swimming hours.

Outside of public hours, water aerobics is offered to adults at the pool in two sessions, including one session on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and another session on Sundays and Tuesdays from 8 to 9 p.m. Wacky Water Wednesdays, which includes water-related games, a pool scavenger hunt and water aerobics, is offered to children starting June 11.

For children ages 5 to 8, the Wacky Water Wednesdays will be on June 11, 18 and 25.

For children ages 9 to 12, it will be July 9, 26, 23.

Children’s swim lessons are also offered at the pool at various times.

At the end of the summer on Aug. 31 there will be the Doggie Dip.

Davis said pool prices have increased slightly so that now children 2 and under get in for $1, children ages 3 to 17 get in for $3.25 and everyone ages 18 and older gets in for $3.50.

A book of 30 passes can be purchased for $67.50 plus tax, and group rates are available for nonprofit organizations.

Personal checks will not be accepted this year.
