Thank you to veteran volunteers

Like many members of his generation, my father and longtime Albert Lean, Richard J. Maschka (1922-2008), was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater.

At his recent burial in the Albert Lea area, the Honor Guard of American Legion Post 56 and VFW Post 447 provided military honors. Their presence was very meaningful to us, and the presentation of the flag to his grandson was a poignant moment for our family.

My husband, Tom Maddox, and I want the community to be aware of the valuable and important service these volunteers provide to the families of veterans. Their efforts require a great deal of time and preparation, and they deserve acknowledgment and recognition. We thank and salute them.
