The injuries have quickly piled up for the Northwood-Kensett softball team.
The Vikings lost starting center fielder Danielle Love for the season when she stumbled running to first base last Thursday against Garner-Hayfield and the list of injured got longer when starting pitcher Lauren Severson broke her ankle and another starting pitcher, Marissa Nitcher, sustained an injury to her leg Wednesday against Rockford in a 13-6 loss.
Nitcher threw three innings and gave up eight runs on the three hits before exiting the game.
Despite all the adversity Northwood-Kensett delivered one of its best performances of the season as it outhit the Warriors 8-5 and managed to score six runs.
“Based on where we are, I was absolutely thrilled with our performance,” Vikings head coach Aaron Foster said. “It’s inspiring to see them finally clicking.”
The hitting and defense were solid for Northwood-Kensett, but the pitching wasn’t as strong.
The Vikings walked 17 batters in the game.
Rockford jumped out to a 8-4 lead after the third inning, and Northwood-Kensett tried to keep pace by scoring two in the fourth, but the Warriors added five runs over the last four innings to grab a 13-6 win.
