Young Wolverines rocked by Stewartville

Experience won out over youth Thursday night when the Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team played Stewartville.
The Tigers capitalized on fielding mistakes made by the mostly freshman and sophomore led Wolverines in a 16-3 win.
“We’re playing with nine every week, mostly sophomores and freshmen,” Glenville-Emmons coach Cary Williamson said. “We have no juniors on the roster and only two seniors. Our first four games I think we probably had eight errors total and I think we had eight or nine tonight.”
The Wolverines had at least one error in every inning and Stewartville took advantage of the extra outs.
The Tigers scored three in the first inning, but Glenville-Emmons scored one in the bottom half of the inning to keep it close.
But in the second inning everything started to unravel for the Wolverines as the Tigers scored four in the frame with two of the runs coming on fielding errors.
“Way too many errors tonight,” Williamson said. “We gave them way too many runs tonight.”
In the third and fourth innings Stewartville added four runs in each inning to take a commanding 15-2 lead.
Glenville-Emmons left the bases loaded in the first inning and struck out nine times on the night.
“It’s just an age deal,” Williamson said. “We’re going up against more experienced teams.”
