Nancy A. Heitzeg, Ph.D., daughter of Louie and Barbara Heitzeg of Kiester, has been promoted to full professor at the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul. This is the highest level of rank that a college professor may receive. Heitzeg is a professor of sociology at St. Kate’s and is also the director of the Critical Studies of Race and Ethnicity Program, which has received national recognition from the American Association of Colleges and Universities as model diversity curriculum.
Heitzeg has also been invited to present this summer at the 20th anniversary of the Oxford Round Table at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. The purpose of the Oxford Round Table is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of contemporary issues that affect the public good in all its various forms and ramifications. Invitees to Round Tables are determined based on several criteria, among which are nominations by earlier attendees, courses that invitees teach, their presentations and writings, and their professional involvement in a relevant area of interest.
The theme of this round table is “Children in Danger.” Heitzeg’s presentation will be “Children in Danger: Race, Class and Risk in the United States” and will focus on the correlations between race, poverty, criminal justice policy and the legal risks to youth of color for both victimization and incarceration.
