In addition to the mayoral seat, other Albert Lea seats that are up for election are Wards 1, 3 and 5.

Filing Tuesday for Ward 1 was current City Councilor Vern Rasmussen, who is vying for his second term on the council.

Rasmussen said he is seeking re-election because he wants to continue to be a part of the advancements of the city.

“I started doing this because I love the city,” he said. “I really enjoy the community, and I want to continue to help it to be the best it can be.”

Filing for the 3rd Ward council seat was Albert Lea native Ellen Kehr.

Kehr announced at the beginning of May her intentions to run for office.

She said she believes in Albert Lea and brings a unique mix of public and private experience to the table.

“I am not afraid to look for new and better ways to accomplish our goals,” she said.

Third Ward Councilor George Marin announced he will not seek re-election.

Filing for the 5th Ward council seat was Fountain Lake Sportsman Club President Larry Anderson.

Anderson announced in the middle of June his intentions to run for office.

At that time he said, “I feel it’s important to do this, and I just feel that in my life it’s time to do this. I want to get things done the correct way for the best of everybody.”

Current Ward 5 Councilor John Severtson announced he will not seek re-election on the Albert Lea City Council and will instead seek election as a Freeborn County commissioner.
