Weekend Planner: ShineFest youth event, breakfasts top weekend calendar

Youths from area churches will host a free music, meal, grocery and gas giveaway from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Morin Park as a ShineFest youth event.

Any family or individual needing a meal and some groceries or anyone in need of an uplifting break in their day is welcome to attend. A free sloppy joe meal will be served. In addition, there will be 100 boxes of groceries given away at the event as well as five $25 gift cards.

“Survive the Drive” and local youth bands will provide music. There will also be jumpers and face painting for the kids.

Friday, July 25

– The Dustin DeBoer art exhibit will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

– The Pelican Breeze will host a pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m.; call 383-2630.

Saturday, July 26

– Northbridge Mall will host a sports card and collectibles show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

– The Pelican Breeze will hold a narrated cruise at 4 p.m.

– The Pelican Breeze will host a pirates and princess kids’ party from 6 to 7 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m. Friday; call 383-2630.

Sunday, July 27

– American Legion Post 56 will host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10. Korean War veterans eat free.

– First Lutheran Church of Glenville will hold a pancake breakfast and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice, coffee or tea will be served for a donation. Proceeds will go toward fixing the parsonage.

-The Albert Lea Elks Club will host a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, hash browns, juice and coffee or milk will be served.

– The Pelican Breeze will hold a Sunday brunch cruise from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m. Saturday; call 383-2630.

Northbridge Mall will host a sports card and collectibles show from noon to 5 p.m.

– Big Ben and the Brians Band will present the free two-hour concert at the Edgewater Park bandshell at 1:30 p.m. The band plays country music, old-time waltzes, polkas and more. The band features Ben Stuart on bass horn and guitar, Brian Raichle on drums and Brian Klouse on concertina.

– The Pelican Breeze will host a narrated cruise at 1:30 p.m.

– Singer and songwriter Dallas Holm will present a free concert at 7 p.m. in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot. An offering will be taken for the Community Cornerstone Project. For more information, call (507) 473-0376.
