A fight Saturday night outside the former KATE Radio building on the corner of First Avenue and West Main Street resulted in knife wounds that sent one man to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” according to police reports.

Robin Lilla, 33, of Winona, went to the Albert Lea Medical Center with “a few slashes on the left side of his body,” said Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels.

Lilla was treated and held for his injuries at ALMC, according to police.

Police officers were called to the scene just before midnight Saturday with reports of a fight in the parking lot at First and Main outside of a wedding reception. The old KATE building is at 1643 W. Main St.

Winkels said a wedding party was taking place in a nearby building and a fight broke out after some party attendees were asked to leave.

The people involved in the fight left before police arrived. Winkels said no one at the wedding knew the people involved in the fight and not many people would talk to police.

While police were at the scene, Winkels said, one vehicle was stopped as it was leaving the parking lot. Theodore James Fitzgerald, 19, of Utica, was not involved in the fight, he said, but was arrested for DUI.

No suspect has been arrested in connection to the stabbing, and the incident is still under investigation.

KATE moved two years ago and now operates at Skyline Plaza.
