With immigrants, think about the golden rule

Most people say they don’t adequately understand what causes illegal immigration. What’s happening in developing countries, how big is this problem worldwide, will it get better or worse in the future?
We aren’t learning about this situation on TV, or reading about it in the paper, or finding books at the library on it. Apparently our kids aren’t learning about it in school, and we don’t hear it discussed at church. There are some exceptions, but they are few and far between.
We need to find a way to become better informed so our ignorance doesn’t make us sound like fools.
For those of us who are God-fearing Christians, the Bible tells us to treat other people like we want to be treated. Native American wisdom says don’t judge others until you have walked a mile in their shoes.
