Work to save the Earth is good for the soul

Looking at the current world situation, and the potential for more wars, I feel it is so important that we find peaceful solutions to resolve conflict. We know very well that nobody benefits from war or violence and the loss is demoralizing and devastating for all.

Mahatma Gandhi a great sage, left us a powerful legacy applying principles of nonviolence, it is possible to tap into this example if we just let go of the selfish agendas of the ego and the greed for power and control.

Columbia (a beautiful country where I was born) recently accomplished the remarkable task of freeing hostages from the guerillas. Not one person was hurt. It was through methodical intelligent work. I find that inspirational and hope that the world leaders were paying attention. Intelligence is by far more powerful that any weapon, it allows the exploration of thoughtful and successful solutions.

In his book “A New Earth,” Eckhart Tolle sees a very interesting correlation between the world’s situation, economy, security, health and the way humankind has used the Earth’s natural resources. Every action has a reaction, but we seem oblivious to this law.

The solutions can be simple and effective, but we make them complex with personal agendas and lack of awareness that every human being deserves respect, that we all are created equal regardless and that the Earth also must be treated with respect as it is God’s blessing to man.

I feel positive about the future, several books on environmental issues are sold out today, also the local library has long waiting lists on them. This is a good sign that people want to do something. I flew from Philadelphia to Minneapolis recently, and the stewardess announced that they were collecting all recyclable items in separate containers that made my trip even better!

Also, I want to thank the local churches that so kindly accepted the suggestion to stop the use of Styrofoam and nonrecyclable material. And of course, I am so proud to make the world a better place. There is no shortage of ideas. Try it, you will feel great about it!
