Friends and relatives of an aspiring teacher who was killed in Philadelphia in June are sending two people to run the Marine Corps Marathon in his honor.
Beau Zabel, an Austin native, had planned to teach in the Philadelphia public schools starting last month. He was shot and killed during an apparent robbery June 15th.
Supporters recently raised about $1,200 to send Zabel’s cousin and a friend of Zabel’s former roommate to the race in Washington, D.C., on October 26.
Kristian Zabel and Andrew Shanks will be part of “Team Heal Trauma,” which is part of a nonprofit organization called Witness Justice that raises awareness about crime victims.
A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest in Zabel’s death.
