Violet Steele

Violet “Vi” M. Steele, 85, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Violet Maxine (Nelson) Steele was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Karlstad. She was baptized on Dec. 14, 1923, at Bethel Congregational Church in Grand Forks, N.D., and was confirmed into the Christian faith on May 28, 1939, at the Danish Lutheran Church in Alden. Violet grew up in Alden, where she attended grade school and graduated from Alden High School.
On May 18, 1944, Violet was united in marriage with Chester Steele at the Danish Lutheran Church in Alden. They farmed and lived in various locations during their married years, moving to Lake Mills in 1961. Vi was employed at Fleetguard Industries in Lake Mills until her retirement.
Violet enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, canning, and yearly vacations to Canada with her family.
Violet is survived by her two children, Cheryl (Al) Plotts of Lyle, and Steve (Sue) Steele of Lake Mills; grandchildren, Annette (Joe) Capaul, Ryan (Jenny) Chose, Dana Plotts, Jeff Steele, Drew Steele, Jessica (Mitch) Hanson, Matt (Sheri) Schmidt, Mike (Kristin) Schmidt, and Rachel (Tyson) Pederson; and great grandchildren, Lukes, Hope, Seth, Abbi, Hannah, Haddie, Brady, and Colin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Erickson) Nelson and Louie Nelson; husband, Chester Steele; and a brother, Russell Nelson.
