The Big Nine is tough this year with No. 1 in the state Mayo and No. 3 Century. Add in the Packers who have a solid singles lineup and powerful doubles team and its going to be trouble for any other squad.
Albert Lea found out the hard way, but shifted its lineup to try to find wins. No. 1 singles player Kelli Hanson joined Mikaela Pierson for the No. 1 doubles team but were only able to win one setinn a 2-6, 6-1, 3-6 loss to Laura Astrup and Sophie Hebrink.
The match of the afternoon came at No. 3 doubles where Jenna Sager and Amy Bohlen went to three sets against Mary Kate Barinka and Katlyn Orcut of Austin. The Packers took the first set 3-6, and Albert Lea took the second set 6-4. The third set went to a tiebreaker and Austin won 6-7 (5-7).
Taylor Nelson, who normally plays at No. 2 singles, moved to No. 1 singles and lost 4-6, 0-6 to Hanna Middlebrook.
