County and city need to work together

Hi. My name is Curtis Smith, and I am running for Freeborn County Commissioner District 5. It has been really exciting getting to know so many new people through the process of campaigning. I have a vast business background and, if elected, plan to bring a great business approach to the county board.

Here are three of my goals.

First, I know I am able to make tough decisions in this tough economy. Where cuts are needed I can make them. I work with budgets every day and I feel I can keep spending within the set budget. I have made a living by stretching dollars, and I am confident that I can do this if elected.

Secondly, I want to improve the communication between the city and county. At times there seems to be an us-versus-them mentality. This just can’t continue. When Albert Lea wins, the whole county wins. When the county wins, the city wins as well. I also want to help both the county and city boards work better together by having more workshops and planning meetings to stay on the same page.

Finally, I want you to know that I will be your voice. Being a commissioner is not about me — it’s about you. I am very approachable and involved within the community, and I am and intend to continue to be a true man of the people.

There is so much to accomplish, and with your vote we will work together to make Freebom County and Albert Lea the best place to live, raise a family and retire. I have been a leader my whole life and I’d like to take my business experience and knowledge and put them to work for you. Thanks in advance for your vote Sept. 9.
