Guest column hit nail on head for energy

If you missed the guest column on Page 4 in the Aug. 25, 2008, Tribune, dig it out and read it. If you read it then, read it again. It contains just too much information to absorb in one reading. It was written by Don Sorensen, who is a resident of Freeborn County. Don has obviously done a lot of reading and spent a lot of time meditating on these facts. Unless we change our energy policy, it will be the end of the American way of life as we know it.

The experts tell us that America has an inexhaustable supply of natural gas. They are dreaming up all kinds of ways natural gas can be substituted for other forms of energy. If 25, 50 or 100 years from now we run out of natural gas and hundreds of thousands of homeowners have to spend thousands of dollars switching their homes to another energy source they will not be happy.

During the Olympics the Tribune carried several cartoons that showed the Chinese police using brute force to keep order during demonstrations. Considering how our two political parties hired armies of police to keep order at their conventions, how can we criticise the Chinese?

About the same time as the Olympics, Russia made the news by sending troops into a small country called Georgia. The news made it sound like we were about to send our troops to rescue Georgia. Considering how we got involved in Vietnam and Iraq when we had no business going there, how can we be critical of Russia? If we ever get in a war with either Russia or China, it will be the end of civilization in the USA as we know it today.
