Riley Swearingen threw for three touchdowns and Matthew Wood ran for two to help give United South Central its first victory of the season Friday, a 40-13 thumping of Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial (0-4, 0-3) at home.
The Rebels’ Matt Stiernagle intercepted Knights quarterback Nate Meixell on Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial’s third play of scrimmage and Matthew Wood scored on a 12-yard run on the ensuing possession for USC.
The Rebels (1-3, 1-2) added two more touchdowns in the quarter to build a 19-0 lead that would never be in jeopardy.
Jacob Sonnek caught two touchdown passes in the game and finished with 47 yards receiving.
Swearingen finished the game 8-of-10 with 103 yards and Wood finished with 85 yards rushing in the rout.
USC head coach Brent Schimek said it felt good to get the monkey off his team’s back with the win, but now has to focus on an undefeated and No. 9-ranked Waterville-Elysian-Morristown team, one that just picked up a big win over No. 10-ranked New Richland-Hartland-Elllendale-Geneva Friday night.
