Regular homeowners can have problems, too

I read the article concerning three homeowners speaking out in favor of the rental ordinance. I can certainly empathize with these individuals, as I am a homeowner myself and have exactly the same situation in my neighborhood, with one exception. The problem houses in my area are all owned by irresponsible homeowners.

Among other things, we have a garage full of stray cats multiplying at an alarming rate, terrorizing the neighborhood. The city is fully aware of this problem, and no one is making this homeowner responsible.

Driving around town, I see a lot of property in disrepair, so why not pass an ordinance to inspect all homes? And while we’re at it, I think people should have to get a permit for pre-approved colors to paint their homes, as I am really sick of driving by the half-painted, bright orange house around the corner.

The problem with all of this is the more laws you pass to protect a few the less rights we all have. The passing of an ordinance to enforce laws already in effect is ludicrous.

Did I forget to mention the fact that I am not only a responsible homeowner but also a responsible landlord, who feels my rights are being infringed upon because of the actions of a few?

In short, you have irresponsible homeowners, landlords and tenants. Where does it stop?
