The ‘silent’ need to start speaking

After reading the letters in the Monday and Tuesday papers from two gentlemen who are frequent contributors, I am wondering: We are hearing so many comments about how “dirty” politics have become. Why is that? Do we twist the facts to suit our own personal political views? Have we the “silent majority” allowed this to happen by not being involved in the political process? We could change this by attempting to be truthful, to have integrity, to not lie or distort the truth.

Some people say, “I don’t vote a party ticket, I vote for the candidate.” That’s OK; however, you are voting a political philosophy when you vote for the candidate, because they do caucus with their party and each party has a definite philosophy. Therefore, we need to understand what that philosophy is.

I could take each point in those two letters and dispute them; however, I heard long ago that “Reality is not reality, perspective is reality.” We each view the same speech or whatever it might be and hear and see what ever our (bias) perspective is.

I watched as much as I could of both conventions because I do not want the commentators and analysts telling me after the fact what the individual “really said!” The media is biased. However, by reading various printed media and listening to several different TV channels one would hope to arrive at the best conclusion.

One of the comments was that the Republicans were not allowing Sarah Palin to be interviewed. I have limited access to some of the TV channels, but I have seen her interview on the nightly news but also ran a longer segment on “20/20” last week. She has also been on several other venues.

My opinion, for what it is worth.
