It was another blowout win for Northwood-Kensett Friday night as the Vikings came away with a 42-6 trouncing of North Butler in North Butler.

Northwood-Kensett (3-1, 2-0) had Phil Fierova rush for 112 yards on 12 attempts and score two touchdowns in the victory.

“I think we’re starting to gel offensively,” Vikings head coach Dave Capitani said. “Our kids are starting to figure things out.”

Northwood-Kensett, ranked No. 10 in Class A, also showed off their passing game with quarterback Jordan Reindl completing 4-of-7 passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.

The Vikings chewed up a lot of time on the clock in the first quarter and set the tone for the rest of the game as its first two drives took a combined 17 plays and both resulted in touchdowns. The Bearcats (0-4, 0-2) managed just six plays in the first quarter.

Northwood-Kensett was pitching a shutout until the fourth quarter where North Butler scored on a fourth and goal from just inches outside the end zone.

Overall Capitani was pleased with the win.

“We’re just trying to take a week at a time,” Capitani said. “Our kids did a good job.”

The Vikings face Newman Friday in Mason City and Capitani expects it to be a tough game. The Knights were state semifinalists last season and have started this season 2-2 and 2-0 in district play.
