Last Wednesday’s “Biggest Loser” physical competition consisted of walking lunges, the plank exercise and a treadmill exercise. For the walking lunges, the women used 20 pound weights for a total of 40 pounds of weight. The men had they competed would have used 35 pound weights for a total of 70 pounds. For the plank challenge, participants went into plank position and the person who held the position the longest received the most points on down to 1 point for the last to fall. The treadmill competition started at a 15 percent grade, starting at 3 miles per hour for three minutes. After the first 3 minutes, the speed was increased by a half mile per hour after each minute. The person who went the longest went 7 minutes and 20 seconds and was at 5 miles per hour for the final 20 seconds. Just with the other challenges, the person who went the longest was given the highest score.

The winner of the competition was Kathy Johnson for a total of 18 points. Sarah Stultz, the winner of the first “Biggest Loser” competition, took second place with 17 points. Third place was again Karen Jacobs right on the heels of Sarah with 17 points. (Karen has represented the 50-plus age group for two consecutive competitions). For anyone who has been paying attention, Karen was fourth in the last competition so she is moving up in the competitions. These three ladies are serious competitors so keep your eye on all three to see where they place in future competitions.

This Friday is a weigh-in to ensure everyone is staying on task. There are two competitions scheduled in October. The first is Oct. 10 with registration at 5:30 p.m., and the second competition is the grandstand competition on Oct. 22 with registration at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to support the competitors in their quest for title and trophy to be the “Biggest Loser.”
