Fire station open house, family fair slated

The Albert Lea Fire Station will hold its annual open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Enter the fire station from the Fountain Street. There will be numerous displays and demonstrations of equipment. Sparky’s Fire Safety House will be on exhibit to show home fire escape and safety practices. Sparky the fire dog will be on hand. Refreshments will be served.
Also on Saturday, the sixth annual Giving Your Best Family Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.
The fair will fill the mall with activities for kids created by area United Way agencies and businesses. Children can travel from booth to booth finding fun things to do and make. There will also be games and inflatables. All activities are free of charge, except for the inflatables. Tickets for inflatables will be $1 each or six for $5.

Friday, Oct. 10
Grace Lutheran Church will hold its annual salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $6 per person. Hot barbecued sandwiches and many salads will be served.
The Angela Burch and Ryan Heath art exhibit will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray Art Center expenses.
The North Star Corn Maze, one miles north and one mile west of Northwood, Iowa, will be open from noon to midnight. Admission is $5 per person; children under 5 will be admitted free.
The Pelican Breeze II will hold a pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m.; call 383-2630.
The Prairie River Camp Corn Maze, located three miles south of Interstate 90 on Highway 253, will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for those 12 years and older and $3 for ages 5 to 11. There is a family rate of $18.
Youth for Christ Mini Golf will be open at Northbridge Mall from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.
Albert Lea Community Theatre will present “Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. For tickets, call 377-4371.

The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon.
