A nationwide search to find a new KIMT News 3 news director ended inside its own building.

Greg Berry is being promoted to the position after spending the last year as its DayBreak and MidDay Anchor/Executive Producer.

“I’m really excited about the new challenges the position will bring,” Berry said.

KIMT News 3 viewers have become very familiar with Berry over the last 8 1/2 years. Most of his time at KIMT had been as sports director, a position he held for seven years.

Berry has spent nearly all of his three decades in Iowa and Minnesota. He was born and raised in the Twin Cities area before graduating from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

An award-winning sportscaster, Berry’s venture into news was met quickly with two big events. Within his first month in news, he was anchoring KIMT’s coverage of the Iowa Caucuses in Des Moines. In June, he helped facilitate KIMT’s extensive coverage of north Iowa’s record flooding.

Steve Martinson, president and general manager, added, “Greg knows the territory and knows the issues that affect our area. You can only get that kind of experience from being involved here. Over the years Greg has had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with many of our viewers. His hands on local prospective combined with his endless enthusiasm for local news, weather and sports are fantastic attributes to have in a newsroom leader.”
