People need to pray for Duane Giese

In regard to the accident that happened in Wells on Oct. 2, the paper only printed what it knew, and that was very little. The accident happened at 7:25 a.m. I am his sister, and I wasn’t notified until 8:45 a.m., and my mother, about the same time. We were called from St. Marys Hospital at 9:30 a.m. letting us know Duane had arrived to emergency. All we had been told was that he had lost his right hand. I was told at 1:10 p.m. that he had gone into surgery at 11 a.m. and nothing was known on his condition.

Later I called at 5:30 p.m. and was told he had been in surgery until 4:30 p.m. his right hand was gone, two toes amputated, big gouge on his right foot, fractured right elbow, gouge on his face, swollen eye with damage, back was torn up from being dragged for 60 feet. He has been in intensive care since. The Mankato Free Press called me in the afternoon and I couldn’t tell him anything because we didn’t know anything at the time he called. The second day he called we only knew what we had been told. I went to the library and got a copy of the accident from the Internet, and the comment section caught my eye. I just thank God the helicopter could land close enough to airlift my brother to the hospital.

Maybe if the paper had printed more of the gory details, I could have read about it on the Internet before I was notified. As far as gossip, people will always talk, no matter what the situation is and the facts on hand. I still don’t know all the facts about what happened that morning, and have not talked to anyone who was there.

Most people who have talked to me have only asked how Duane was doing, and how my mother was doing. People were wondering why Duane crawled under the train. Who cares about the why? His judgment was poor and the results were terrible. Before judging my brother, stop and think about if this had happened to your family member. Would you care why it happened? Or why he did it? It’s done and the results are something Duane will have to live with for the rest of his life.

Haven’t you done something you have regretted?

Instead of wondering why he did a stupid thing, pray for his recovery.

His address there is Duane Giese, St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, MN 55905. Cards and prayers are needed now. My mom and I would like to thank the Wells Police Department, the ambulance crew, any other people involved with the accident and to the Albert Lea Tribune and the Mankato paper for the reporters’ thoughtfulness in handling the news reports. Most of all I want to thank the caring people of Wells with the concern for our family. May God bless and I hope no one else will have to go through something like this.
