Bill Ferrie: Transition from gymnastics to wrestling

Bill Ferrie was a member of the Albert Lea High School gymnastics team from 1979-1981. He served as captain in his sophomore and junior year, qualifying for state in the all-events category. ALHS dropped gymnastics as a school sport in 1982.
Bill was a member of Albert Lea High School’s last Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament championship in 1981. He placed third as a senior at 135 Ibs. and fifth as a junior. His high school wrestling coaches were Neal Skaar, head coach and assistant coaches David Frame and Jim Baker. His overall wrestling record at ALHS was 87-8-1.In his senior year he also played football and was on the track and field team.
After graduating from High School in 1982, Ferrie was awarded a scholarship to wrestle at Nebraska University. He was redshirted his first season due to a knee injury caused him to miss his freshman year. His overall collegiate record at Nebraska was 65-42-2.
He wrestled in the 1985 and 1987 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships, finishing in ninth place in 1987 at 150 Ibs. and finished with a 31-8-2 record his senior year. Bill was a four-year letter winner and was co-captain his senior year.
Ferrie graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1987, from Nebraska University. After graduation Ferrie took a position as a sales representative for Circadian, a medical diagnostic equipment firm out of San Jose, Calif. His region included North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and part of Nebraska. After four years he left Circadian and started working for a construction company.
Minnesota Building Contractors was started by Ferrie in 1998 in Inver Grove Heights. After two years he relocated to Hutches Corner in Hayward. He also purchased the resturant at Hutch’s and ran it for four years.
Ferrie’s parents, Art and Marcie Fenie, had seven children, brothers Steve, Rick, Dave, Mike, and Timothy and sister Lizette.
Ferrie is married to the former Desiree Berth of St. Louis Park. They have two boys, Jackson 13, and Cooper 4.
The newest endeavor for Bill is a partnership in Harvest Farm Campground near Cresco, Iowa, and Harmony Cave.
The Ferrie family lives east of Manchester on an 18-acre hobby farm.
