The Lake Mills girl’s basketball team traveled to Forest City on Friday evening and played in a six-team jamboree.

The Bulldogs lost 23-17 in a two-quarter game against Clear Lake.

“The story of the night for us was free throws and our press breaker,” Lake Mills head coach Mark VanGorkem said. “When we got to the offensive side we ran our offense great and scored almost every time.”

Senior Jordynn Brackey and sophomore Lindy Pins led the Bulldogs with six points each. Senior Sammy Nelson chipped in three points and sophomore Amanda Lampman had two points.

“We had some issues with their pressure full-court defense,” VanGorkem said. “For the most part we ran our two-three zone exactly how we wanted to. In the end we fell short and lost the second quarter battle.”

The Bulldogs started the game with Brackey hitting a 3-pointer to start the game off and helped to set the pace for awhile but it was the lack of converting early on free throws that hurt the most, according to VanGorkem.

“We started getting to the free throw line and needed those points to keep the lead or stay close, but we just couldn’t convert,” VanGorkem said.

The Bulldogs shot 6 of 14 from the line.

“We have always been a good free throw shooting team so I know that it will get better,” VanGorkem said.

Lake Mills travels to St. Ansgar for its next game on Tuesday.
