County permits get a boost

A new school addition in Alden and a new structure in Bancroft Township, plus 18 other building permits issued by the Freeborn County Planning and Zoning Office resulted in higher than anticipated totals for October.

The latest report from this county office for the 20 October permits shows a listed valuation of $3,083,208. This increases the estimated total valuation for permits issued to $9,593,509 for the first 10 months of the year.

Over two-thirds of the October was the $2,237,046 valuation listed for the permit issued for the construction of the new addition to the Alden-Conger School.

A permit was issued to J.P. Properties with a valuation of $200,000 for a new building to be located north of the Good Samaritan Center in Bancroft Township.

Another October building permit with a valuation of $38,575 was issued to the Community Lutheran Church of Geneva for the installation of a new elevator.

So far this year there have been county-issued permits for 27 new homes, according to a planning and zoning office spokesman. Two of those permits were listed on the October report, and one was for the new Dirk and Susan DeVries home and garage in Hayward Township.

During October, the City of Albert Lea Inspection Department issued 42 building permits with a valuation of $977,850. This increases the total valuation for permits during the first 10 months of the year to $11,073,267.

At the end of October 2007, the city’s report showed a total valuation of $23,624,913 for permits issued.

A permit with a valuation of $100,000 was issued during October to International Transmission Company, 20789 780th Ave. (County Road 38) for a 30 foot by 96 foot canopy.

Ventura Foods, 919 E. 14th St., was issued a building permit with a valuation of $46,500 in October for a new roofing project.
