Editorial: Thank you for voting

Thank you for voting. Today, you did your country a favor.
But you also did your state, county, city, school, township, judicial system, and soil and water conservation district a favor.
Former U.S. House Speaker Tip O’Neill famously quipped, “All politics is local.”
How true! He was saying that the concerns of local folks and their local governments affect the actions of politicians even in far away Washington, D.C.
Voters get excited over the presidential elections — which indeed are important — but, in fact, you are more impacted by the actions of your local politicians such as a mayor or a school board member than the president or other federal politicians.
We are glad to hear there was high voter turnout locally and nationwide. We hope people remain this interested in elections.
