The St. John’s Lutheran Home Employee Council sponsored a food drive to support the local Salvation Army food bank.
Employee council member Crystal Andreson said, “We wanted to do something for the community, to give back to the community.”
Andreson suggested giving to the local food bank at the September employee council meeting and the idea took off from there. Money was raised through cash donations, bake sales and a silent auction.
The proceeds from the food drive were presented to Capt. Jim Brickson of the Salvation Army. One hundred and forty eight pounds of food were donated. Much of the food that was donated came from the tenants of Knutson Place Apartments. The St. John’s staff and residents also raised $1,311.54 for the Salvation Army food shelf.
Ann Thom, employee council president, said she was happy with the response from staff and residents. “I can’t believe the amount of money that was raised. People know that there is a need out there and they just stepped up to the plate and gave,” she said.
