Good Sam employees kind, considerate, caring

Here I am again, reminding people to think positive! It’s very difficult to do these days, with all the happenings in the world. It’s especially difficult because we’re reminded constantly of those negative happenings. After all, what makes headlines: war, murder, tragedies and abuse.

It’s the abuse I want to address in this letter, as it’s definitely in the local news right now. Why not a headline that reads: “Good Samaritan employees are kind, considerate, caring”?

Since my mother became a resident there I figure I have visited Good Sam approximately 500 times. It never ceases to amaze me how the employees remember all the first names and greet each of them as they pass in the hall, making each resident seem “special.” They’ll take the time to inquire about family pictures hanging on mom’s wall, compliment her on the sweater she’s wearing, make sure she knows that there is a chapel meeting or special music in the dining room. That is all above and beyond the nursing care, watching for any problem she may have, setting up doctor appointments when needed, dispensing medications at the proper time. There are the “Care Conferences” where department heads meet with the resident and family members on a regular basis to discuss any problems or concerns.

This is my way of reminding everyone that, yes, indeed, a few bad apples — you know the old adage. But, please, remember that those in the news are the minority, and by far the kind, considerate ones I described earlier are, thank goodness, the majority!
