Otter Tail County authorities say a man found dead in his car near Iverson Lake may have committed suicide.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Iverson Lake rest stop on Interstate 94 Tuesday afternoon after a caretaker reported a car parked in the lot for at least 24 hours.

Authorities suspect the man found inside the vehicle died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Sheriff Brian Schlueter. The man, whose vehicle had Florida plates, may have been in the car for up to 48 hours.

“We found some family and we are trying to determine why he was up here,” Schlueter said.

Authorities say the body is that of a 42-year-old man from Florida. A State Patrol trooper discovered him Tuesday sitting in a reclined position in the driver’s seat of his car at the Iverson Lake rest area.

The State Patrol says an autopsy will be conducted.
